Community Conversation – The State of the Eviction Ban
Co-Presented by EYET and CERA
Throughout the provincial emergency order that began on April 8th, the Sherriff’s office has been prohibited from evicting most tenants, though the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) is still holding eviction hearings.
The government announced that the stay-at-home order would be lifted regionally across the province on June 2nd, meaning that the Sherriff’s office will also be able to resume tenant evictions.
During this Community Conversation, EYET and CERA (The Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation) will review the state of evictions and guide discussion around how housing professionals from across the GTA have adapted to support clients facing, or at risk of, evictions.
Using guided small group conversations, housing professionals can connect to discuss strategies they and their organizations are enacting to prepare for the lifted eviction freeze, and share resources in the community that support tenants to keep their housing.
We will collaboratively discuss:
- How are housing professionals strategically preparing to support clients through the anticipated influx of evictions?
- How have housing professionals been supporting clients through online eviction hearings?
- How are housing professionals supporting the creation of rent arrears repayment plans?
- What have the impacts of Bill 184 been in the work of eviction prevention?
