EYET’s Community Conversation: Return to in-person: Emerging from the COVID-19 Pandemic

As we emerge from the pandemic and more of our services return to in-person, it’s about reconnecting, re-tooling and establishing new links for building back our networks. Navigating this “new normal” also involves taking stock of impacts on staff and our clients and finding new ways of approaching our work. In essence, we are re-opening to a different work environment, than existed pre-pandemic. As a result, we must negotiate unprecedented challenges within a new service delivery landscape.

On August 18th, 2022, EYET is inviting 3 panelists to attend our Community Conversation and help shed light on the following questions, from a manager’s perspective:

  • How have service levels changed at your agency? And how are you meeting the demand?
  • What needs are you seeing from clients? And what are you doing to keep up-to-date with client needs in your sector?
  • How has work changed for you and your staff? And how do you see these changes affecting the future of service delivery?

Panelists Bio:

Alaka Brahma: Alaka’s background includes earning a PhD in India and a Social Service Worker’s Diploma in Canada. She has been working in the social service sector for 22 years currently managing the Housing, EarlyON and after-school tutoring programs at TNO. In the past 16 years, she has managed multiple programs at TNO including the Housing Program. Working in the housing help sector for over 20 years, Alaka worked in collaboration with various partners including Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation, RentSafe and many others in advocacy projects in an effort to promote the need for safe and affordable housing.

Rejwan Karim: Rejwan is a passionate community development professional and is currently the APOD Hub Manager at Access Alliance. With over 20 years of professional experience in the non-profit sector, he holds a Master’s in Business Administration, a post-graduate diploma in International Development, and a Master’s in Adult Education and Community Development. Rejwan Manages community programs and facilitates many collaborative projects to support immigrants, refugees, and their communities impacted by systemic barriers and poverty.

Sarah Singh: Sarah has been the Housing Services Manager at EYET for the past five years. Prior to this she has been a community leader in social services overseeing a variety of programming including transportation, employment, senior’s services.  She understands the impacts of the social determinants of health that produces barriers for individuals requiring access to critical services such as housing, health care. Sarah is a graduate of urban planning at the University of Toronto.  She has a strong belief in poverty reduction through provision of equitable social and healthcare services for diverse communities.

EYET’s Community Conversations emerged during the pandemic as a way to bring together housing professionals to discuss the most current and pressing issues and innovative, grassroots solutions.
